8 months old today!

March 27, 2009

Mylo is 8 months old today, and also had his 8 month appointment with Dr. Shearer. His percentiles are: 75% for his head circumference; 60% for his weight which is an even 20 lbs.; and 70% for his height at 28 1/4 inches. He didn’t get any shots today, and I’m sure he would have been happy had he known there was a danger of getting stuck! Mylo has been consistently above the 50% percentile, and is sticking to that trend. Dr. Shearer said he’s right on track, developmentally.

Since he’s reached 20lbs., it’s time for a new car seat. We have to find one that begins rear-facing, and can turn forward once he reaches 1 year. I’m starting to feel like he’s growing up too fast, and I think Chris is feeling the same. It seems like just yesterday we were trying to figure out just how tight is tight enough to keep our little baby safe in the car seat—now we throw him in, yank it tight, and tell him it’s time to go—and it’s already time to find a new seat!

Dr. Shearer said that crawling is considered any self-propelling towards a goal, and not just on hands and knees. By that definition, Mylo’s been crawling since the age of 6.5 months. She also said that with as determined as he seemed, he’ll probably be walking very soon!

We introduced chicken for the first time tonight that wasn’t pureed like his foods have been. Mylo wasn’t quite sure about the new development, but we thought it tasted good! Here’s a video of Mylo’s new obsession with self-feeding, and his feelings on chicken-apples ‘n’ celery.

Tooth tally=7

March 22, 2009

Mylo sprung three new teeth yesterday, bringing the total tally to 7. Seven! Who has seven teeth by 7 months old?!

On top he has his two cuspids/canines and two more appeared between. On the bottom he sprung one just to the left of his front two.

Right now, they’re not bothering him as much as we’ve heard teeth bother babies, but he has yet to get one that makes the other ones move to make room. That might be when it hurts…we’ll soon find out!

Mylo’s new bath time hairdo, and two pictures of Mylo standing up…right before he bit the big one and let me have it.

Trip to McCall

March 21, 2009

Mylo and I went to McCall over St. Patrick’s Day weekend to see Chelsea and Grandma Cindi and Papa Joe, and to meet Chelsea’s new boyfriend, Ethan. Here are some pictures of little Mylo from that weekend, as well as a video of the Icky Food Face.

I’ve been working with Mylo to learn how to sit on his own. He’s extremely busy, so just sitting holds zero appeal. Last night I put Mylo on the floor on his tummy to play, and almost immediately he was up like a little tripod, and then he was almost sitting! He still needs to have one hand on the floor, but he’s really getting the idea!

I’m not actually sure if Mylo is going to really crawl at all…I think he might be the kid to skip it all together. He’s still trying to master it—he can get up on all fours, rock back and forth, does a “downward dog” sort of pose, and then decides to scootch. He’s a big fan of standing up, and sometimes will hold on to the couch, or one of us, and talk endlessly!

Mylo has a few sounds in his repertoire…he can do da, buh, puh and blows raspberries all in between. He’s the most talkative right after he wakes up in the morning, and then again after his morning nap.

What else? He hasn’t hit another growth spurt yet; we’re working on Cheerios; he’s got another tooth coming in…OH! Mylo’s learning how to give kisses and hugs! And that’s probably the most rewarding thing these days! Kisses and hugs definitely make up for the midnight feedings!

Mylo has learned that he can scootch to where he wants to go, and he usually gives us commentary along the way!

These teeth are priceless!

Welcome!
